I wrote this book after registering for a picture book workshop offered by The Highlights Foundation. We were told to arrive with a completed picture book draft — which would be critiqued by the instructors and our fellow students. So, early one morning, as the workshop loomed close, I told myself that I couldn’t get out of bed until I came up with my book idea. As my brain rattled around, jumping from thought to thought, I eventually found myself wondering why the tooth fairy is always portrayed as this dainty, magical creature — complete with wings, wand, and flouncing skirts. To my mind, what has kept the tooth fairy going all these years is the thrill of the hunt. I bet she's as addicted to nabbing baby teeth as I am to dark chocolate! I see her as very James Bondish — with quite the attitude!

About Me

Author Portrait
Sheri Bell-Rehwoldt, a military brat, graduated from the University of Texas (Hook 'em, Horns!!) and has the framed diploma to prove it, though she can't quite remember where she put it.

Ah, UT: Beautiful buildings, beautiful people, beautiful cars. But, with 50,000 students, it's an easy place in which to lose your soul. Sheri's fondest memories?

The stench of pigeon poop, (oh so pungent after an Austin rain), a firm bum courtesy of the long haul between classrooms, and the time she wore a "Jesus Saves" T-Shirt to class and droves of students parted before her like the Red Sea.

Sheri used to have a "real" job, but these days she's an award-winning magazine writer, editor, and social media trainer. She also writes award-winning books for kids. Her latest, a picture book (ISBN 978-0811854603) illustrated by the fabulous David Slonim, is about a very James Bondish Tooth Fairy. The publisher is Chronicle Books. First printing August 2007. Second printing March 2008. Third printing January 2009. 15,000+ copies sold. French and Hebrew versions on the way!

Sheri wrote the book after the Tooth Fairy made a late night appearance, during which she demanded that Sheri set the record straight. "I'm a technology chick," Sheri swears the tiny tooth-nabber declared. "The whole fairy dust thing is soooo old school."
